ZOO TEEN PROGRAM

The Zoo Teen Program is designed as a volunteer program for students ages 15 – 18. Zoo Teens assist our education staff with groups of campers, students, and guests as an extra set hands to help with encounters, programs, and other activities such as games and crafts. Zoo Teens will develop animal handling, interpretation, and public speaking skills.

Zoo Teens are expected to show a positive attitude towards the Alligator Farm, guests, and staff. As role models for the younger campers and students, Zoo Teens must abide by all Alligator Farm rules at all times. Any Zoo Teen showing a lack of maturity, cooperation, or positive attitude will be asked to leave. Each Zoo Teen will receive a letter outlining the number of hours volunteered at the end of each season (spring season – April, summer season – August, fall season – December). Any additional paperwork required by schools in order to receive volunteer credit must be completed by the Zoo Teen and then submitted to the Curator of Education for approval.

The application period for the Zoo Teen program begins in January of each year and runs through May. Clink on Apply and Rules & Duties for the necessary paperwork. Training begins after the St. Johns County school calendar year has ended, and the program will run from June – March. It is highly encouraged that your teen has participated in at least one of the Alligator Farm’s summer camps before applying for this program.
